Why consider scar revision at PERK Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills?

At PERK Plastic Surgery, we try to control all the factors we can control to improve the appearance of your scars. The goal is to make unsightly scars look more similar to the surrounding skin.

As plastic surgeons, the most common question we get is, “Will this scar?” Unfortunately, scars are an inevitable part of any cut whether it is from surgery or from trauma. The appearance of the scar depends on the following factors:

  • Your genetics
  • How you heal
  • How the cut was made
  • How the cut was repaired

What are different types of scars?

Keloid scars

Keloid scars are raised nodules that appear due to an injury. Keloids may be itchy, and painful. They are common in clients with darker skin and common in areas like the ear, neck, chest and shoulders. Treatments for keloids include steroid injections and pressure dressings.

Hypertrophic scars

Hypertrophic scars are made of thick scar tissue that appears at the site of a wound. Hypertrophic scars may be red, raised, uncomfortable or widened.

Acne scars

Acne scars are reminders of previous areas of acne. They are usually discolored and depressed.

What does scar treatment entail?

Scar treatment is varied by what the scar looks like and how long you have had the scar. The best way to see if a scar can be improved is through a customized consultation with Dr. Lee in Los Angeles. If a scar was repaired with poor technique, the scar can often be revised surgically.

Scar rehabilitation includes treatment with microneedling, steroid injections, nanofat, injectable and topical medications. Scars will never disappear. However, the appearance can be greatly improved.

What is the recovery process like for scar treatment?

Most scar treatments can be performed in the office and done under local anesthesia. After treatment, it’s normal for the scar to worsen in appearance before it improves. Scars take time to heal and can take up to one year to reach their final appearance.
